Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) is a General Partnership firm of ACS Infrastructure Canada, SNC-Lavalin O&M, and EllisDon. RTM has been awarded a long-term contract to maintain the Confederation Line, the new light rail transit system in Ottawa. RTM is now seeking an Environmental Specialist who will report to the Director of Commercial/Legal/Compliance, Rideau Transit Maintenance.
All RTM positions will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable supply of trains and maintenance services on the Confederation Line. Core Duties and Essential Job Functions:
- Support the coordination and implementation of RTM’s Environmental and Sustainability programs on the Confederation line
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant environmental regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices
- Issue request for proposals for Environmental contracts, manage contracts, and review invoices in collaboration with the Procurement Manager
- Manage the Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) for the company and waste fee payments
- Perform monthly and quarterly Sanitary Sewer Sampling for the required locations and send to laboratory for analysis
- Coordinate the Environmental Compliance monitoring activities with various stakeholders
- Manage the reporting system to various stakeholders including regulatory bodies
- Assist with the annual regulatory reports
- Support, coach and mentor colleagues and subcontractors in improving Environmental and Sustainability performance
- Prepare the meeting slides, document the management review meeting, and distribute internally to different levels of organization
- Review and update aspects and impacts register, permits and approval register
- Work with the team to set annual objectives and targets for Environment and Sustainability
- Complete monthly environmental inspections
- Prepare, participate, and follow up on internal and external audits items
- Assist in closing out open items from audits and inspections
- Develop environmental procedures and support the documentation update process
- Deliver RTM’s Environmental orientation and training to internal and external stakeholders
- Support the incident reporting and investigation process relating to environmental incidents
- Follow-up on corrective actions stemming from inspections, audits, non-conformance reports and investigations
- Assist in proposed facility change reviews
- Role will include support for health and safety as required
Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Environmental studies, other relevant environmental education may be considered
- Experience in developing technical and non-technical reports
- Strong knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements acquired through experience and education
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills; including public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to problem-solve and tackle new assignments effectively and efficiently
- Able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and people management skills
- Experience in using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
